For one memorable week, some of the best golfers in the world once again descended on Belleair as Pelican Golf Club hosted The ANNIKA driven by Gainbridge at Pelican. And when the final putt dropped Sunday afternoon, Sweden’s Linn Grant stood above the field.
Grant delivered a remarkably steady performance, closing with a 5-under 65 to finish at 19-under and earn a three-shot victory over Jennifer Kupcho.
Just how good was she? Grant played an incredible 52 consecutive holes without a bogey. Her streak finally ended with a bogey on the 18th hole Sunday—but by then, the tournament was hers.
Tournament host and Swedish golf legend Annika Sörenstam summed up Grant’s week perfectly while presenting her with the trophy on the 18th green.
“You made this course look easy. It’s not easy,” Sörenstam told her.
The victory was Grant’s second LPGA Tour title and carried special meaning for the 26-year-old Swede. Growing up in Sweden, Grant attended clinics hosted by Sörenstam and remembers watching her childhood idol hit wedge shots to someone catching the golf balls with a baseball glove. Grant went home and began doing the same thing with her father.
Years later, she found herself accepting one of Sörenstam’s trophies in Belleair.
Sunday’s final round did offer a little early drama. Kupcho birdied the first hole to briefly tie Grant for the lead. Grant responded with a birdie on No. 2 and never trailed again.
Her lead grew to three shots at the par-3 ninth after Kupcho made bogey and Grant calmly rolled in a 10-foot birdie putt. From there, Grant remained firmly in control.
Kupcho also shot 65 to finish second, while Mexico’s Gaby Lopez birdied four of her final six holes for another 65 and a third-place finish.
Brooke Matthews may have had the most exciting few minutes of the day. On the 140-yard 12th hole, Matthews made a hole-in-one with a 9-iron—and won a two-year lease on a Lamborghini Huracán.
Two holes later, she chipped in for eagle.
“It was wild,” Matthews said. “All week I was like, ‘I want to win the Lamborghini.’”
Her round of 65 also moved her into the top 60 of the Race to the CME Globe, qualifying her for the season-ending CME Group Tour Championship in Naples.
Defending champion Nelly Korda, a three-time winner at Pelican Golf Club, finished with a 69 and tied for 15th.
For Belleair residents, The ANNIKA has become much more than another stop on the LPGA Tour. It’s a chance to see world-class golf just minutes from home—and to watch some of the game’s biggest stars compete on a course right in the heart of our community.
This year, Linn Grant made sure Belleair witnessed another performance to remember.
