What Makes a Life Meaningful
September has a way of reminding us that change can be beautiful.
As summer begins to give way to fall, the days become a little cooler, the light shifts, and familiar routines begin to return. It is a season that naturally invites us to slow down, look around, and appreciate the people and experiences that shape our lives.
As I worked through the stories in this month’s issue, one thought kept coming back to me: what makes a life meaningful?
There is no single answer, of course. But the people featured in these pages offer some beautiful examples.
Roger and Barbara Bear’s story is filled with vision, courage, opportunity, and remarkable professional success, but what stayed with me most was the partnership behind it all. Their journey reminds us that accomplishments are made even more meaningful by the people who share them with us.
Daisy Harris shows us something equally powerful. Her life has been shaped by hard work, family, generosity, creativity, and purpose. I love that when asked what chapter of her life she would choose to revisit, Daisy does not point to an easier season. She would go back to her beauty shop, to the work she loved and the people who filled those days with conversation and laughter.
Sallye Liner’s story offers another perspective on a meaningful life. Her decades of caring for patients, leading others, advocating for family, and continuing to serve her community remind us that purpose does not end when one chapter closes. Sometimes it simply takes a new form.
Throughout the rest of this issue, that same spirit of connection continues to appear. Neighbors gather around books and conversation. Volunteers make sure others feel included. Families celebrate milestones. Community organizations provide safety and hope to people who need it most. And somewhere nearby, a sweet puppy named Beanie is hoping to find the family who will make her part of their story.
Taken together, these stories are a reminder that a meaningful life is not built through one grand moment. It is built over time through relationships, service, kindness, courage, laughter, hard work, and the countless ways we show up for one another.
That sense of connection is also at the heart of what we hope Stroll Bermuda Run brings to this community each month. These pages help us get to know one another a little better, celebrate the people around us, discover what is happening close to home, and strengthen the relationships that make Bermuda Run such a special place to live.
And none of it would be possible without the businesses and organizations you see throughout these pages.
Stroll comes to every resident mailbox free of charge because of the partners who choose to invest in this community. They believe in Bermuda Run, they value the families who live here, and their support makes it possible for us to continue sharing the stories that help connect us.
So as you Stroll through these pages, I hope you will take notice of the businesses within them. When you need a service they provide, give them an opportunity to earn your business. Tell them you saw them in Stroll. Share their names with friends and neighbors. When businesses choose to invest in our community, one of the most meaningful ways we can thank them is by investing back in them.
Without these partners, we simply would not have a Stroll to Stroll through.
As we welcome a new season, I hope this issue gives you a reason to pause and appreciate the people who make your own life richer. Maybe it will inspire you to reach out to a neighbor, join a group, serve somewhere new, support a local business, spend a little more time with someone you love, or simply notice the good happening all around us.
There are extraordinary stories being lived every day right here in our community, and it is a privilege to help share them.
Happy Fall, Bermuda Run!
Blessings,
