Center Stage Dance Studio Owned by Michele Lee

Loving movement and feeling confident through dance.

For more than 45 years, owner Michele Lee of Center Stage Dance Studio has helped dancers of all ages grow in skill, confidence and character. Located nearby on Rosscraggon Road, the studio offers a nurturing environment where every student is encouraged to perform at their personal best while developing a positive self-image.

At Center Stage, dance is about more than learning steps. The studio believes ballet provides an important foundation for dance education, while encouraging well-rounded training across a variety of styles, including ballet, jazz, tap, lyrical, hip-hop, modern, contemporary and acrobatics. Classes are designed for dancers of all ages and experience levels, from young children taking their first steps into the studio to teens continuing their dance education. Adult classes also provide an opportunity for grown-ups to move, learn and reconnect with the joy of dance.

That welcoming philosophy is one reason Center Stage has become a longtime part of the Asheville community. Families often describe the studio as positive, encouraging and supportive, with instructors who help dancers improve their technique while making them feel seen and valued. For many students, the relationships they build along the way become just as meaningful as the dance skills they develop.

Center Stage also offers competitive dance opportunities, skills training and seasonal programs designed to keep dancers moving and inspired throughout the year. Its summer offerings include imaginative theme camps for younger children, dance camps, ballet camps and specialized intensives in styles such as hip-hop and modern. The emphasis remains on creativity, confidence and having fun while learning, no previous experience is required for many of the summer programs.

And then there are the milestones that make a dance studio feel like a family. Michele has watched tiny tots take their first steps on stage and seeing them grow (in size and skill) at her studio and head off to college. Over the years, countless dancers have grown not only in their abilities but also in confidence, discipline, teamwork and self-expression.

The mission at Center Stage is to help shape creative, kind and responsible dancers who carry those values beyond the studio. That philosophy resonates with families who want their children to experience the benefits of dance in an environment that encourages them to grow at their own pace.

Many Biltmore Park families are already part of the Center Stage community, including the Briggs, Beck, Blackman, Bilbray, Paynich, Hubbard and Messer families—all of whom have experienced the magic of Center Stage, located just a few miles from Biltmore Park.

Whether your child is trying dance for the first time, looking to develop new skills or you’re ready to return to the studio yourself, Center Stage welcomes you to experience the joy of movement, the confidence that comes from mastering something new and the lasting friendships that can grow along the way.
