Maple

Royal Roots, Sticky Sweet Charm, and a Zero-Boundary Policy on Personal Space

Hi neighbors… Maple here.
Maple London Miller, if we’re being formal. And honestly, we probably should be.

After all, I do come from royalty.

Long before I made my debut in Brocks Gap, my ancestors were lounging in the royal courts of England, perfecting the fine art of looking beautiful, warming laps, and being completely and unapologetically devoted to their people. It’s a legacy I take very seriously.

These days, you’ll hear me called Mapes, Mapies, or if my girls are feeling particularly musical “Mapes, no Grapes!” It’s a whole thing. I didn’t write the song, but I do feel it captures my essence.

I’m a two-year-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Blenheim in coloring, which is just a fancy way of saying I look like a glowing fall maple leaf kissed by sunshine. Or maple syrup. Which is also fitting, because I am, in fact, very sweet… and slightly sticky to my people.

Discovered, Not Bought
My origin story begins the way many great love stories do… with my mom scrolling social media.

She saw my baby picture, reached out, and the rest is history. Some might say I was carefully chosen, but I prefer to think of it as being discovered. Like a hidden treasure. Or a royal heir returning to her rightful home

From the moment I arrived, it was clear I had found my place. Or rather… my people.

And once you’re my person… we’re close. Consistently. Comfortably. Without exception.

A Love Language: Proximity
If I had to describe myself in a few words, I’d say loving, joyful, and deeply committed to physical closeness.

If you sit down, I will join you.
If you’re sad, I will place my face directly on yours.
If you have a concept of personal space… I will gently, but firmly, help you release it.
It’s a gift, really.

I don’t just love my people. I attach to them. Velcro-level commitment. Full-body presence. Emotional support with zero boundaries.

Raised by a Vet (Which Explains a Lot)
Now, here’s something that feels less like coincidence and more like destiny… my mom is a veterinarian.

She started Trace Crossings Veterinary + Pet Wellness, a mobile vet that comes to pets in their own homes.

Which, if you ask me, makes a lot more sense.
Familiar space. No stress. No rushing around.

I’m not sure why it took humans so long to figure that out.

It’s a perfect fit for our neighborhood, and, if we’re being honest, a perfect fit for me.

Since she started the practice, I’ve expanded my talents into the professional world. I serve as the unofficial mascot, morale booster, and creative director behind many of her best ideas.

I also make sure she never works too long without a break. A well-timed head on the laptop tends to handle that.

Life in the Neighborhood
We’ve lived in Green Trails since 2021, and let me tell you… it’s exactly the kind of place a dog like me thrives. There are friendly neighbors, kids running around, and more smells than one dog could reasonably investigate in a single walk, though I do try.
My family loves that it feels like a real community, not just houses, but people who care about each other. The girls have friends nearby, there are always familiar faces, and every walk holds the promise of someone stopping to say hello…

…usually to me.

Athlete. Artist. Toy Destroyer.
Now, don’t let the royal background fool you. I am not just a lap dog. I am also an athlete.

Tennis balls are my passion. My calling. My purpose. I will chase them with the intensity of a dog twice my size and the confidence of someone who has never once missed. Details are irrelevant.

Stuffed toys? I enjoy them too… briefly. Mostly for the thrill of the challenge. Seams, unfortunately, do not stand a chance against my scissor-like teeth.

Ice cubes, snack patrol, supervising children, and the occasional toilet paper or Kleenex situation keep me busy. Looking completely innocent beside the evidence comes naturally.

And when it’s time to rest, you’ll find me exactly where you’d expect: in a lap, in a sunbeam, or directly on top of anything my mom is trying to work on.

Around Town
You may have seen me out and about, representing both my family and my professional brand. I frequent spots like The Whole Scoop, Hoover Steaks & Wine, and the farmers market at Brocks Gap Brewing Company, where I make it my mission to meet new people, accept compliments, and evaluate snack opportunities with great care.

The Good Stuff
If you ask my family for their favorite memory with me, they’ll tell you it’s not just one moment.

It’s the evenings. The backyard. The girls laughing. A tennis ball flying through the air. Me sprinting like a champion. Everyone together, outside, exactly where they’re meant to be.

And me… right in the middle of it all. Because that’s what life is all about. My pack.

Not just the toys or the treats or even the tennis balls, though those are great.

So if you see me around the neighborhood, come say hi.

Just know…
there’s a very good chance I’ll end up in your lap.

And honestly?
You’re going to love it.
