From Friday Night Lights to Fresh-Cut Lawns
At 18 years old, Luke Adams is heading into his senior year at Norman North High School with a lot to be excited about. A lifelong Brookhaven resident, Luke has called the neighborhood home for all 18 years of his life, and right now, he’s focused on making the most of his final year of high school.
“I am most passionate about enjoying my senior year and having a good football season,” Luke says. “I want to spend a lot of time with my friends and just enjoy it all because I know it will go by fast.”
Luke plays football for Norman North and has worked hard to become a starting defensive player. Getting there has taken dedication both on and off the field.
“I have worked really hard to get where I am at in football today,” he says. “I am a starter in defense and have shown up every day to get to the physical condition that I am in.”
His determination extends well beyond football. At just 17, Luke started his own lawn mowing business, Trimly Turf, and managed to become profitable during his first year. It’s an accomplishment he says he is particularly proud of.
“I just like being an entrepreneur and owning a business,” Luke explains. “It is a very good feeling to make your own money and start your own business, especially at a young age.”
Now, he’s excited to keep building it. “I am very excited to continue to grow my lawn mowing business and get more and more yards.”
Luke’s work ethic has also been shaped by challenges. During his sophomore year, an injury kept him out of football for the entire season. Although it was difficult at the time, the experience gave him a perspective he still carries today.
“It taught me that everything happens for a reason and it is all a part of God’s plan,” he says.
When he isn’t playing football, running his business or working out at the gym, Luke enjoys something his neighbors might not expect: reading. His favorite series is Harry Potter, which he has read multiple times.
Looking toward the future, Luke plans to attend the University of Oklahoma and earn a degree in finance. Ideally, he’ll continue running his lawn business on the side while pursuing a career in finance.
“I want to be able to provide for myself and everyone around me,” he says.
That desire to help others extends into his vision for his community. Luke hopes to eventually get involved in community service and would especially like to help people experiencing homelessness or hunger in Norman.
For younger kids hoping to accomplish their own goals, Luke has some simple advice: “Be consistent with everything that you do if you want to achieve a goal.”
And when asked what he hopes people remember about him, his answer is just as straightforward: “I am a hard worker and a respectful person.”
As Luke heads into his final year of high school, he’s ready to work hard, enjoy the moment and see where the next chapter takes him. In the meantime, if you need some help with your yard, Luke has one more message for his Brookhaven neighbors:
“If you need any yard work done, you know who to call.”
