Canterwood Riding Club Facility Cleanup #2

Previously, Canterwood Riding Club (CRC) held a comprehensive facility cleanup, with many boarders and their spouses dedicating half their day to the effort.  More recently, the same crew of boarders and spouses gathered again to tackle a new list of cleanup activities, with many focused on more indoor cleaning due to the on and off again rain. Despite the rain, most of the indoor and outdoor projects were completed. The cleanup effort was again organized by CRC’s Board of Directors, two of whom are Canterwood residents – Sue Blanding-Wilson and Luellen Lucid.

There is still more work to be done this summer. Most important, stall fronts need to be cleaned and then re-painted once the weather is more reliably clear. Despite all the weed whacking done to date, there is more weed whacking to be done. CRC hired a landscaper this spring to remove the most difficult blackberry-covered areas along the hillside.

CRC has some exciting upcoming projects that were put out to bid. A construction company is coming this summer to build the covered composting areas with most of the cost covered by a conservation grant. It has literally taken years to go through the process, but the construction crew and state conservation officials came onsite recently to go over the construction plans. We have also hired a specialized landscape company to redo the footing in our indoor arena and round pen and bulldoze and level all the front and some of the back paddocks to mitigate against muddy paddocks in the winter. That project will also start very soon.

At the conclusion of the day’s activities, boarders and spouses gathered in the indoor arena to have lunch provided by CRC.  A buffet was set up for making your own sandwiches, fresh strawberries from a boarder’s land, chocolate cupcakes, and soft drinks, wine, and beer were also provided. My horse Ruger, who had been ridden in the indoor arena, was stationed in a cross-tie after his ride and entertained by having so much happening nearby.
