The Scotneys: Meet the Family Behind the Costumes
If you’ve ever wondered what happens when you combine six kids, a hospitality-loving couple, a passion for theater, a neighborhood walking trail and a healthy dose of “general tomfoolery,” you might find the answer in the Scotney family.
Sean and Lindsey Scotney have called Forest Ridge home since February 2019, when they moved into Deerfield just before the pandemic. Since then, Forest Ridge has become the backdrop for family walks, adventures, quiet evenings and plenty of time together.
The Scotneys are a family of eight, although four of their six children are now adults and living in different states. Manny, 24, lives in Stillwater; Hailey, 22, lives in Fayetteville, Arkansas; Siomonn, 21, lives in Salem, Oregon; and Luke, 18, lives in Springdale. Their two youngest, Scarlett Grey, 14, and Finnaeus, 13, are still at home. The family is also enjoying life as grandparents to Hailey’s two boys, Justin, 4, and Asher, 2.
Professionally, Sean and Lindsey are both deeply involved in the hospitality and events industry. Lindsey owns a hospitality staffing and event planning company, while Sean serves as CEO. Their work has also inspired the Oklahoma Service Guild, an organization focused on supporting restaurant, bar and hospitality workers across the state, including efforts to provide portable health insurance benefits.
With busy event schedules often taking over their Friday and Saturday nights, the Scotneys make family time a priority with their weekly “Sunday Fundays.” The family has found countless ways to spend those days together, from escape rooms and movies to hikes, day trips and plenty of other adventures.
One of their biggest adventures came during the pandemic, when Sean, Lindsey and their two youngest kids embarked on a 40-state road trip. With a few suitcases, an electric skillet and a desire to chase sunsets, they explored the Pacific Coast Highway, the Great Lakes, Maine, North Carolina and plenty of places in between before making their way back to Oklahoma.
Closer to home, the Forest Ridge walking trail holds a special place in their hearts. The family walked it nearly every day during the pandemic, encountering turtles, snakes, fish and all kinds of birds along the way. Today, they still appreciate the peacefulness of the neighborhood, especially after spending so much time working in the hustle and bustle of Tulsa’s event scene.
When they aren’t working or traveling, the Scotneys stay busy with hobbies including Mahjongg, pickleball, board game nights, bourbon and wine tastings. They’re also longtime theater enthusiasts. During the pandemic, the family participated in a modern production of Alice in Wonderland, which sparked a love of theater in their two youngest children.
Giving back is another family priority. The Scotneys volunteer together with the Eastern Oklahoma Food Bank, Greater Good Charities and Oklahoma Service Guild outreach efforts, while also participating in Tiger Athletics.
And, unsurprisingly, good food plays a big role in the Scotney household. Lindsey is a classically trained chef, so Michelin-star-quality meals at home are not unusual. When they go out, East Village Bohemian in downtown Tulsa is a favorite, particularly for its goat cheese salsina before a night at a show or concert.
For Sean and Lindsey, one of the best things about Forest Ridge is the sense of peace they find here. They love the quiet nights, the neighborhood’s enthusiastic Fourth of July celebrations and the opportunities to connect with their neighbors. They hope to help encourage even more community spirit through block parties and other neighborhood gatherings.
Whether they’re traveling across the country, acting on stage, volunteering, gathering around the dinner table or simply enjoying a Sunday Funday, the Scotneys have embraced life in Forest Ridge with plenty of curiosity, connection and fun.
