Precious Pets
Meet Winnie
Family Member Names: Chris Rasmussen and Jill Jester
- Pet’s Name: Winnie
- Type of animal/breed: Golden Retriever
- Male or Female: Female
- Pet’s Age: 3 months
Where/why did you get your pet?
- Winnie is a niece of our 5-year-old Golden, Archie, who had seemed a bit lonely recently. In search of a good companion, we reached out to Jill’s friend and former law school professor, who had given us Archie. When we texted him, he replied that he had 3-day-old puppies if we wanted one.
Is there a story behind its name?
- As Goldens are Scottish, we thought a Scottish name would be fun. We searched for popular girl dog names in Scotland and came up with Winifred, or “Winnie”.
Anything special or unusual about them (talents/quirks)?
- Being so young, her personality and talents are still emerging, but Winnie loves digging, running in the mud with Archie, eating sticks, and drinking water from the pool.
What do you like best about your pet?
- Watching Winnie play with Archie is like sunshine for your soul. They are so happy together, just like we hoped they would be. Pets are family, and we love ours.
Any funny stories?
- Along with Winnie and Archie, we have two cats from the Linda McNatt Animal Shelter, Max and Jasper. Max is more comfortable around people and other animals, but since Winnie’s arrival, Jasper has mostly stayed upstairs. The other night we heard Winnie yelp, and both ran to see what was the matter. We believe that was the first up-close-and-personal meeting between Jasper and Winnie, during which Winnie probably got too close for Jasper’s comfort.
How spoiled is your pet?
- Thanks to friends and family, Winnie does not lack toys or chews, which is good since she loves to chew! I like to think she is spoiled with hugs and kisses.
What else should we know about your pet and/or how your pet has enriched your family/home?
- We adore our family of pets and feel blessed to be in a place to have them.
