On Top Roofing
Raising the Standard in Roofing and Customer Advocacy
Founded by owner Derick Hihn, On Top Roofing was built with a clear mission: providing homeowners with more than just a new roof. The company strives to be an advocate, a trusted resource, and a partner homeowners can rely on from the first inspection through the completion of their project.
After nearly 23 years of experience in the roofing industry, Hihn decided it was time to build a company of his own—one centered around communication, customer service, industry knowledge, and doing what it takes to help homeowners navigate an often-complicated process.
Today, On Top Roofing and it’s team proudly serves homeowners throughout Louisville, Kentucky, Southern Indiana, and surrounding communities, specializing in storm-related roofing damage and insurance restoration.
More Than a Roofing Company
Louisville and the surrounding region experience their fair share of severe weather, including high winds and hailstorms capable of causing significant roof damage. Unfortunately, that damage isn't always obvious from the ground.
That's where On Top Roofing comes in.
The company offers complimentary Roof Inspections to evaluate the condition and structural integrity of a homeowner's roofing system. Its experienced team looks for signs of hail damage, wind damage, missing or damaged shingles, leaks, and other potential issues.
If storm-related damage is discovered, On Top Roofing helps homeowners understand their options and guides them through the next steps.
“We specialize in storm-related losses due to hail or wind damage,” Hihn said. “We meet with homeowners free of charge to inspect their roof and help determine whether they may have a storm-related loss. If they decide to file an insurance claim, we're there to help them understand the process and make sure the damage is properly documented.”
Experience When It Matters Most
One of On Top Roofing's greatest strengths is its extensive experience working with insurance-related roofing projects.
For many homeowners, dealing with an insurance claim can be confusing and overwhelming. On Top Roofing helps Simplify that Process by providing detailed inspections, documentation, estimates, and professional roofing expertise throughout the project.
When there is a disagreement regarding the scope or extent of legitimate storm damage, the On Top Roofing team is Willing to Provide Additional Documentation and Communicate with the appropriate parties to help ensure the homeowner's property damage is accurately represented.
That commitment doesn't end after the initial inspection.
“We're there for our customers from start to finish,” Hihn said. “Whether the process takes a few weeks or several months, we're available. We don't disappear after the inspection. Communication is one of the biggest things that sets us apart.”
For Hihn, it's about making sure homeowners understand what's happening with their property and never feel like they're going through the process alone.
Built Around the Customer
While quality workmanship is essential, Hihn believes the true difference between roofing companies often comes down to the experience they provide.
That philosophy has helped shape On Top Roofing from the beginning.
Prompt communication, responsiveness, honesty, and follow-through are at the center of the company's approach. Customers know who they're working with, what is happening with their project, and what comes next.
“Our customer experience sets us apart,” Hihn said. “If we believe we can help somebody, we're willing to put in the time and effort. We want our homeowners to know that somebody is ]n their corner.
That customer-first mentality extends to every stage of the project—from the initial inspection and documentation to material selection, installation, cleanup, and final walkthrough.
The goal isn't simply to install another roof. It's to build a relationship and earn a customer for life.
Nearly Two Decades of Experience Behind a New Company
Hihn and his team brought nearly two decades of roofing industry experience with him.
Over the years, he developed extensive knowledge of storm restoration, roofing systems, customer service, and insurance-related projects. He also built relationships throughout the community and developed a reputation for being persistent when it came to helping homeowners.
Starting On Top Roofing gave Hihn the opportunity to take everything he had learned and build a company around his own standards.
“I'm an entrepreneur, but I'm also fortunate to have an amazing team around me,” Hihn said. “I wanted to create something where we could take care of customers the right way, build relationships, and be proud of the work we leave behind.”
That approach has helped On Top Roofing grow quickly while maintaining the personal attention of a locally owned company.
Innovation Beyond the Roof: Shingle Tomb
Hihn's entrepreneurial mindset doesn't stop with On Top Roofing.
He is also the founder of Shingle Tomb, a separate company created to solve a simple but long-standing problem in the roofing industry: what happens to the homeowner's leftover shingles after the job is finished?
Roofing contractors frequently leave extra shingles behind so homeowners have matching material available if a future repair is needed. Traditionally, those shingles may end up stacked in a garage, attic, shed, or basement—where packaging can deteriorate and homeowners may eventually forget which contractor installed the roof.
Shingle Tomb turns that leftover material into a long-term homeowner resource and contractor marketing opportunity.
The durable storage system is designed to hold extra roofing shingles while displaying the roofing contractor's branding and contact information. Contractors can strategically place the Shingle Tomb on the homeowner's property, so replacement shingles are organized, protected, and easy to locate when needed.
At the same time, the contractor's name stays connected to the roof long after installation is complete.
“It's more than a storage box—it's a long-term marketing piece for the roofing contractor,” Hihn said. “Instead of leaving a bundle of shingles sitting in someone's garage, we're creating something useful for the homeowner while keeping the contractor's name and contact information with that roof for years to come.”
It's a simple concept with the potential for a lasting impact: protect the homeowner's extra roofing materials while helping contractors stay connected to their customers long after the job is finished.
A Roofing Company Built for the Long Term
For Hihn, the success of On Top Roofing comes down to something straightforward: Take Care of People, Communicate, do Quality Work, and Stand Behind What you do.
Whether a homeowner is concerned about possible storm damage, experiencing a roof leak, missing shingles, or simply wants a professional evaluation of their roof, On Top Roofing is committed to providing straightforward information and helping customers make informed decisions.
And when a complete roof replacement is necessary, the company's team remains involved throughout the process to ensure the project is completed to the highest standards possible.
“I love what we do,” Hihn said. “There's nothing better than being able to build a successful company while helping people at the same time. When a homeowner knows you've worked hard for them and they're happy with the finished product, that's what makes it worthwhile.”
With an experienced team, a growing reputation throughout the Louisville area, and innovative ideas such as Shingle Tomb, On Top Roofing isn't interested in simply being another roofing contractor.
It's Building a Company—and a Reputation—Designed to Last.
