Get Your Estate Plan In Order with Simpson Yancey Law
“Everyone needs an estate plan,” says Attorney Miranda Simpson Yancey.
Because estate planning isn’t just about what happens after you’re gone. It’s also about what happens if life doesn’t go according to plan.
“It’s planning for death, yes,” Miranda explains. “But it’s also planning for incapacity—getting sick, injured, or reaching a point where you can’t make decisions for yourself.”
It’s the kind of conversation many people avoid. Until they can’t.
And that’s exactly where Miranda steps in.
Southern Roots
A Southern native who studied in Alabama, Miranda first began working in estate planning in Florida in 2014. She quickly found that she loved the work, especially the relationships she built with clients.
But like many professionals, she was drawn in another direction. A friend recruited her into a large personal injury firm, promising opportunity and financial growth. Miranda made the leap, eventually managing several attorneys across multiple states and relocating to Denver as part of that expansion.
On paper, it was success. In reality, it was something else entirely. “Personal injury and litigation can be very high stress,” she says.
After years in that environment, Miranda knew it was time to return to what she truly enjoyed. In 2023, more than a decade into her legal career, she made a bold move. She started her own firm.
And she hasn’t looked back.
“I love my clients,” she says. “I love sitting down with people, learning about their families, and helping them put a plan in place that gives them peace of mind.”
Setting Herself Apart
At Simpson Yancey Law, estate planning is approached differently. Miranda takes what can feel overwhelming and breaks it down into something manageable.
“I think one of my strengths is explaining things in a way that makes sense,” she says. “Taking out the legalese and helping people understand why these documents matter.”
Whether it’s a trust, a financial power of attorney, or guardianship decisions for minor children, Miranda walks her clients through each step without pressure.
“I’m not an intimidating lawyer,” she says with a laugh. “I’m not going to be sitting there in a suit. I want people to feel comfortable.” That comfort makes a difference, and her Southern drawl doesn’t hurt either.
“A lot of people tell me, ‘Wow, you made that so much easier than I thought it would be,’” she shares.
Countering Misconceptions
There are plenty of misconceptions when it comes to estate planning. One of the biggest? That you need to be wealthy to need one.
“That’s just not true,” Miranda says. “Estate planning isn’t about how much money you have. It’s about making decisions while you can and making things easier for the people you leave behind.”
It’s a gift, she explains. One that spares loved ones from drawn-out legal processes.
“You hear it all the time,” she says. “Some families say, ‘Everything was set up perfectly. It was so easy.’ And others… it’s a mess. It takes years.” Miranda’s goal is to make sure her clients fall into the first category.
A Full Life
Outside the office, Miranda enjoys life with her husband, a Navy veteran, musician, and handyman. They love their two dogs, Mr. Brown, a senior chocolate lab, and Hash Brown, a Dachshund-Australian shepherd mix.
“We love live music,” she says. Expect to find them at Red Rocks all summer and other venues around town.
Miranda has a work ethic instilled at a young age, yet she takes time to unwind, while keeping clients first. Because at the end of the day, estate planning is about people. And making sure the ones you love are protected, no matter what comes next.
