Nile Green: Leading with Faith, Friendship, and a Championship Mindset
Nile Green has called the Bloomingdale neighborhood home, living with his parents, Matt and Michele Green, and his older brother, Miah, 21.
As a senior at Hurricane High School, Nile has made the most of his high school years. A member of the Varsity Boys Soccer Team, he also serves as Vice President of the Senior Class for Student Council. His involvement extends across campus as a member of the English Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Sports Media Club, the Environmental Club, and Link Crew. He has participated in the Ski Club and the Prom Committee, while also staying active in his church youth group. Outside of school, Nile enjoys skiing, disc golf, fishing, weightlifting, and competing in travel and club soccer.
Soccer, however, has been the constant thread throughout his life. “When I was three years old, I started playing in Soccer Tots,” Nile shared. “I’ve never really stopped. I’ve played travel and club soccer, and for Hurricane Middle and Hurricane High School. It’s just always been part of who I am.”
This fall marked a defining moment in his journey. As a senior, Nile helped lead Hurricane to a West Virginia AAAA State Championship. “Winning the state championship this fall was the highlight of all our hard work through the years,” he said. “I’ve played with most of the same guys since we were little. We don’t just have passion for the sport, we’re best friends.”
As one of the team’s senior leaders, Nile focused on setting the tone for younger players. “I would say optimism is a key trait I bring to the team,” he shared with Stroll Hurricane. “I’ve experienced how seniors treated me when I was younger, and I’ve tried to be intentional about how I treat underclassmen. When practice got intense or conditioning was tough, I tried to lighten the mood. Before games, I led our pre-match prayers to encourage and calm everyone before we took the field.”
Balancing athletics, academics, and leadership roles takes discipline, something Nile credits to his faith and mindset. “My faith keeps me strong and focused on prioritizing what needs to be done first,” he said. “Time is important; how I spend it and what I do with it matters.”
After graduation, Nile plans to attend either West Virginia University or the University of Kentucky, where he looks forward to the next chapter of growth and opportunity.
When asked who has influenced him most, his answer comes quickly.“My dad, who has given me wisdom and helped guide me through hard choices. Especially during high school, he’s become one of my best friends as well as my father. With him and my mom supporting me, I’ve always been encouraged to keep moving forward, even when facing setbacks.”
Nile Green’s story is one of commitment, character, and community. And as he prepares for graduation, one thing is clear: the foundation he has built will carry him far beyond the soccer pitch.
