Braylon Hadwin
Chasing the Next Lap
For Isle of Hope resident Braylon Hadwin, success in the pool comes down to consistency, commitment, and trusting the process.
The 15-year-old Veritas Academy freshman has lived in the neighborhood for nine years and says the people are what make the community special. Like his younger brother, Braxton — featured in last month’s Amazing Athletes spotlight — Braylon has built much of his life around sports. But instead of the soccer field, he spends his time racing through the water.
Braylon swims year-round with Low Country Aquatic Club, competes with the Isle of Hope Sharks during summer league season, and also represents Veritas Academy on its swim team. He first joined the Sharks at just 5 years old and later expanded into competitive club swimming two years ago.
Inspired by Olympic swimmers Jordan Crooks and Caleb Dressel, Braylon has already collected memorable achievements of his own. One of his proudest moments came in eighth grade when he captured first place at the GAPPS state championship. Another highlight was attending swim camp at Ohio State University last summer.
Balancing school and athletics requires planning, something Braylon takes seriously.
“School comes first,” he says.
Through swimming, he’s learned the value of discipline, patience, and hard work, while coaches Dennis of LCAC and Andrew of the Isle of Hope Sharks have helped shape his development along the way.
Looking ahead, Braylon hopes to earn a full swimming scholarship and continue competing at the collegiate level. His advice to other young athletes is simple but meaningful:
“Trust in God, he has a plan.”
