Savannah VOICE Festival

A Legacy in Song

For Maria Zouves, creativity extends far beyond the stage.

President and co-founder of the Sherrill Milnes VOICE Programs, Zouves built an international career as a soprano after making her Carnegie Hall debut in 1997. Alongside her husband, legendary baritone Sherrill Milnes, she founded VOICExperience in 2001 with a shared commitment to mentoring young artists and preserving the traditions of great singing for future generations.

That mission eventually found a home in Savannah through the Savannah VOICE Festival, which has become a cultural cornerstone for the city. Today, the festival and VOICExperience operate together under the Sherrill Milnes VOICE Programs, providing education, artist training, and audience engagement while making the arts accessible to all.

Now celebrating its 14th season, the Savannah VOICE Festival will return Aug. 7-16 with more than 26 events throughout the city. Highlights include a concert celebrating Broadway's Golden Age, Mozart's The Magic Flute, and a finale honoring America's 250th anniversary through a special American opera celebration.

Beyond music, Zouves also brings her passion for the culinary arts to the organization. She holds certificates in culinary arts and baking, as well as a degree in holistic nutrition and wellness from Escoffier School of Culinary Arts. Her love of food and hospitality complements the festival's mission, creating memorable experiences that bring artists, patrons, and the Savannah community together.

Through partnerships with local organizations, schools, and health care providers, the Savannah VOICE Festival serves not only as the city's opera company but also as a champion of culture, education, and connection.
