Jenny Britt’s Front Porch in Full Bloom

For Isle of Hope resident Jenny Britt, gardening is less about perfectly manicured flower beds and more about creating a welcoming space filled with personality, fragrance, and heart.

Britt has lived in the neighborhood for six years and says the area’s natural beauty, friendly neighbors, and strong sense of community are what make it feel like home. Her inspiration for gardening traces back to her mother, who was an avid gardener before passing away when Britt was 26.

“My mother was a passionate gardener,” Britt says. “I’ve spent years trying to fake her green thumb.”

While her sister Nicole may be the true horticulturist in the family, Britt has carved out a gardening style all her own — one centered around the cozy charm of her front porch. Lined with ferns, geraniums, and fresh herbs, the porch has become her favorite place to unwind and tend to her plants.

Britt handles the gardening herself and often gathers inspiration through the Wymberley Garden Club, where she is a member. She hopes to add more bulbs next season, saying she loves “the surprise of a new sprout.”

Of course, the porch garden would not be complete without King Arthur, Britt’s Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, who keeps watch from his Adirondack chair like “a monarch inspecting his kingdom.”

For Britt, gardening is not about perfection.

“Sometimes beauty comes with dirt under your fingernails and a half-dead fern you refuse to give up on,” she says.
