Richmond Drive Roots

Jennifer Lindley’s Ever-Evolving Outdoor Space

For Jennifer Lindley, gardening on Isle of Hope feels deeply personal. Though she has lived on Richmond Drive for roughly 15 years, her connection to the neighborhood stretches back much further. Growing up on Bluff Drive surrounded by family gave her an early appreciation for the island’s natural beauty and timeless scenery.

When Jennifer purchased her home from the Stone family, she inherited a thoughtfully maintained yard that already carried plenty of character. Over the years, she has preserved much of its charm while weaving in touches that reflect her own style and personality. Inspiration comes from many places, including magazines, neighboring gardens, and the landscape that defines Isle of Hope itself.

Among her favorite features are the side garden and cheerful window boxes, though the property’s towering oak trees and magnolia tree remain especially meaningful. Draped in Spanish moss, they create the classic coastal atmosphere she loves most.

In 2021, Jennifer added a backyard pool, which quickly became a favorite gathering place for her fiancé, children, and friends. The yard’s open layout gives kids and dogs room to roam, while the fire pit keeps the outdoor space lively during cooler months.

Jennifer admits gardening can test her patience, especially when weeds take over or plants fail to survive Savannah’s climate. Still, she finds comfort in starting fresh.

“Sometimes it gets discouraging when your plants die,” she says, “but it’s so therapeutic to plant and water new life.”
