Fresh Spaces, Familiar Home

Lake Jeanette residents Steven and Afi Parris have spent nearly 20 years building both a home and a life in Greensboro.
Steven is a healthcare engineer for the Department of Veterans Affairs, specializing in the design and construction of VA outpatient facilities across Virginia and North Carolina. Afi is a partner with Fox Rothschild LLP practicing divorce and family law. Both are also deeply involved in the community through volunteer and leadership work.
After living in their home since 2007, the couple finally decided it was time to tackle a renovation project they had imagined from the beginning.
“We wanted to update our kitchen when we first moved into the home, but we had other priorities raising our children and settling into our new city,” Afi says.
Once their children were grown and the couple became empty nesters, the timing finally felt right to rethink how the home functioned for this new season of life. The renovation focused primarily on the kitchen and main living areas, with an emphasis on improving flow, storage, and usability for everyday living and entertaining.
The couple worked with Cabinet Concepts along with an interior designer to bring their vision to life. Starting with inspiration photos, the team helped refine the ideas into a finished design that felt both updated and personal.
“All of the trades they used provided quality work and were very professional,” Steven says. “The Cabinet Concepts designer also worked well with our interior designer and took our vision from pictures of what we liked and improved on that for a project that exceeded our expectations.”
The redesign included better pantry and cabinet storage, expanded cooking capacity, and a more functional layout for hosting family and friends.
“We also love that they turned a formal living room that was rarely used into an office space that makes working from home a pleasure,” Steven says.
Today, the refreshed home reflects both practicality and personality — a space designed not only for entertaining, but for the way Steven and Afi live now after years of raising a family in Lake Jeanette.
