The Inmate by Freida McFadden

Your neighbor’s honest review and thoughts on a recent read

What type of book is it?
Psychological Thriller

What was your favorite part of reading this book?
The Inmate is a fast-paced read that is hard to put down. The twists and turns grabbed my attention from the start and never let go.

Who would enjoy this book the most?
If you enjoy a suspenseful page-turner with an unpredictable psychological twist, then add this to your wish list.

Who would not enjoy this book?
McFadden is a talented author who knows how to build a thriller, though if you didn't enjoy her other work like The Housemaid, you'll probably want to skip this one. Her books follow a similar formula, and The Inmate leans into it fully.

What surprised you about this book?
The more I read, the more I thought I had it figured out, only to change my mind a few chapters later.

Is this a “one-time read” or a “keep on your shelf” book?
This book is a one-time read for me. I enjoyed it, I recommend it, but I do not need to read it again.

Was there anything that didn’t work as well for you?
Some parts of the story were unrealistic, so you can't focus on the logistics. I felt one character in particular was frustratingly naive. But this book isn't trying to be a literary masterpiece. It's built for entertainment, and on that front it delivers.

If this book were turned into a movie, would you watch it?
I would most definitely watch this as a movie. It's always fun to see what changes get made in an adaptation and whether you agree with the choices. I think The Inmate would translate really well to the screen.
