“At Blackbird Salon, we specialize in luxury, lived-in hair with a focus on healthy, effortless color and customized guest experiences,” says owner Jennifer Holmes. “Our services include dimensional blonding, balayage, grey blending, precision cutting, extensions, Brazilian Blowouts, custom color, and luxury treatments designed to keep hair beautiful long after guests leave the salon.” With Blackbird Salon, Jennifer wants to continue raising the standard of what professionalism, education, and hospitality look like in the beauty industry while creating opportunities for the next generation of stylists to truly thrive.

Jennifer is originally from Katy, Texas, but began her career as a stylist in Boston, Massachusetts nearly 18 years ago, which she says “shaped so much” of who she is as a stylist and business owner. “I had the opportunity to train under some of the most respected hair icons in the industry, which built the foundation for the standards, artistry, and hospitality I carry into Blackbird Salon today,” she says. “Eventually, Texas called me back home, where my husband and I planted roots, built our family, and built a business centered around connection, creativity, and making people feel cared for.”

Outside of the salon, Jennifer and her husband, Mark, focus on their family life along with their two children, Everly and Harrison. With Mark working in the restaurant industry, food and hospitality are a natural part of their daily life, whether Jennifer is “getting my hands in the dirt planting with my kids” or gathering in the kitchen to try new recipes. This passion for hosting effortlessly carried over into her business model at Blackbird Salon. Driven by a desire to slow down and enjoy the people around her, Jennifer designed the business to mirror the warmth of her own household, featuring an oversized island and a personal atmosphere. For Jennifer, the idea of luxury extends far beyond beautiful hair, saying that it’s “about how people feel the moment they walk through the door.”

Bringing that feeling to Blackbird aligns with Jennifer’s aspiration to be more than just a salon. She wants it to be a place where guests and stylists grow as people. She says one of the most rewarding parts of owning Blackbird has also been meeting so many incredible members of our community and building relationships that go far beyond hair. What often starts as a salon appointment turns into years of trust, connection, friendship, and shared life moments, and that is something she never takes for granted.

Alongside the services listed previously, Blackbird Salon also offers wigs, toppers, and hair replacement solutions for guests experiencing thinning hair or hair loss. For Jennifer, one of the most meaningful parts of her journey has been educating and mentoring new cosmetology graduates as they begin their careers behind the chair. Watching their confidence grow, their skills sharpen, and their success unfold through our training program has brought her so much joy over the years. “This industry is so much more than just hair. It’s personal, emotional, creative, and deeply rooted in human connection,” she says. “Unfortunately, many new stylists leave cosmetology school without the level of advanced training and hands-on experience needed to truly thrive in a luxury salon environment. I believe that professional education after school is often what makes or breaks a stylist’s ability to provide excellence consistently.”

Looking to the future, Jennifer’s hope is to continue expanding Blackbird Salon’s education program, grow their hair loss and topper services, and create a salon culture that leaves a lasting impact on both guests and the future of the industry. With each guest that comes through the doors of Blackbird, Jennifer and her team are creating a feeling of luxury, self-love, and moments of compassion and companionship that last long after they leave.
