Mama’s Mint Juleps

A refreshing Southern classic — perfect for warm spring evenings. This recipe has been shared with neighbors at past Derby gatherings right here in Litchfield Country Club.

Ingredients
* 1 cup sugar   *1 3/4 cups water
*2 quarts bourbon whiskey *About 25 sprigs fresh mint

Instructions
  1. Dissolve sugar in water over medium heat. Let cool.

  2. Bruise 15 mint leaves by gently rubbing them between your palms.

  3. Combine the bruised mint, cooled sugar water, and bourbon in a large container. Cover and refrigerate for a couple of days.

  4. Remove the mint from the mixture.

  5. Fill julep cups with crushed or cubed ice, pour in the bourbon mixture, and garnish with a fresh sprig of mint.

Yields-  About 20 (4 oz.) juleps
Note: Very potent. Perfect for entertaining — or easily scaled down for a smaller batch.
