Life with The Poole Family
Jonathan and Laurie Poole have proudly called Litchfield Country Club home for 15 years. After renting on Crooked Oak in 2011, they purchased their home on Melrose in 2013 — and they haven’t looked back since.
Laurie grew up in Frostburg, Maryland and moved to Charlotte in 1998 after graduating college. Jonathan, a Charlotte native, was the reason for that move — as Laurie laughs, “It’s all his fault.” The two met during Laurie’s final nursing rotation in Maryland, when Jonathan was visiting his grandmother in the hospital. A smile was exchanged, and the rest is history.
After years in Rock Hill and a few moves along the way, the couple decided to chase a long-time dream: life near the beach. Pawleys had always been a favorite vacation spot — they even spent their mini-honeymoon at Litchfield by the Sea in 2000. “We almost moved to Little River,” Laurie recalls, “but then we said, ‘What are we doing? Let’s go to Pawleys!’” And they did.
Laurie has worked as a nurse for 28 years and now works at an MUSC office in Mount Pleasant. Jonathan has spent nearly three decades in the disc golf promotion business and has helped install several local courses — most notably the course at Stables Park, which is expanding to 18 holes this year.
Their family includes sons Max (24), Kellen (22), and Carver (10), along with five-year-old grandson Oslo. Max lives in Arkansas, focusing on being a dad and enjoying working on cars as a hobby. Kellen graduated from HGTC in 2025 and co-owns Lowcountry Property Services, a window washing business with his partner Matthew Roberts, who also lives in LCC. In his spare time, Kellen surfs and works out. Carver is a fourth grader at Waccamaw Intermediate School and keeps busy with piano lessons and karate.
The Poole family’s four-legged member, Irie, is a three-year-old pup from Georgetown. She’s their second family dog after losing Mollie in 2022 — and interestingly, Irie shares the same birthday as Mollie: March 11th.(Happy Birthday Irie!) She loves chasing squirrels, barking at passersby, and staying close to Jonathan wherever he goes.
What the Pooles love most about Pawleys Island is simple: everything. The beaches, the people, the laid-back lifestyle. They try to go to the beach as much as possible and all love the ocean, looking for shark teeth, and being in the water. It was always a dream to live near the ocean, and they feel there’s no better place to call home. They hope to call it home forever.
