In the May household, there is never a dull moment. How could there be with two dogs and a cat who are equally as playful as they are lovable?

Though the three furry friends came from different places, chance brought them together, each finding their way to the Mays. Barton, a boxer, is their “COVID baby.” The Mays had planned to bring him home from a breeder, and lockdown gave them the rare gift of extra time together.

Basil, a rescue from a French bulldog breeder, was initially adopted by another family. When they later contracted COVID and the mother developed a dog allergy, Basil joined the Mays.

Autumn, a calico cat and the newest addition, was spotted chasing golfers’ balls at Safari Golf Club before being sent to Cozy Cat Cottage and meeting the Mays.

Each pet brings joy in their own way. Wherever the Mays go, Barton and Basil are never far behind, earning them the affectionate nickname “Velcro dogs.” It’s all fun and games until 87-pound Barton, who thinks he’s as small as 18-pound Basil, insists on sitting on laps.

Barton loves playing fetch, and though he’s terrible at returning the ball, he eagerly brings it back to the Mays, inviting a playful wrestle, or often falling asleep with the ball clutched in his mouth.

Basil, perfectly sized to fit under a plane seat, is the ideal travel companion. She joins the Mays for school drop-off and waits at the door each morning, while Barton takes over for school pick-up.

Autumn adds fun chaos, often knocking objects off counters. Luckily, Basil keeps her in check, playfully disciplining her with a paw as if lovingly swatting her.

The three friends don’t just bring joy and love to the Mays, they’re also adored throughout the neighborhood, delighting both humans and dogs with their enthusiastic greetings. Even the delivery drivers know them and bring them treats. 

While dogs and cats are often thought to be at odds, Barton, Basil, and Autumn show that’s not the case. Their unique and empathetic personalities balance one another, creating a delightful trio that fills the Mays’ home with love.
