Stroll Murrysville Go-Getter, Vera Recruited for Elite International Youth Football Competition

Eleven-year-old soccer standout Vera Sharan, has reached an exciting new milestone in her athletic journey after being recruited by Coach George Ba to compete internationally with an elite pre-professional youth football team. The opportunity places Sharan among some of the top young players in the sport as Team USA returns to Paris, France, for international competition in June 2026.

Adding to the significance of the achievement, Vera has earned a competitive placement on a team composed of players two years older than herself. The decision reflects both her advanced skill level and the dedication she has demonstrated through years of training, competition, and personal development.

While excelling on the field, Vera has also established herself as an outstanding student-athlete. A student at Franklin Regional Intermediate School in Murrysville, PA, Westmoeland County, she maintains a perfect 4.0 grade point average while actively participating in a variety of school and extracurricular activities. She is a member of the school band, where she plays the saxophone, contributes to the FR Newscast, and participates in the Kids of Steel program.

Her interests extend well beyond the classroom and soccer field. Vera plays both piano and guitar and is an active member of the PGA Juniors program at Westmoreland Country Club. She also enjoys crocheting and making origami, and can solve a Rubik's Cube in under one minute. These pursuits reflect the same focus, discipline, and creativity that have fueled her athletic success.

On the soccer field, Vera's versatility has become one of her defining strengths. She competes as both a goalkeeper and striker, demonstrating exceptional adaptability and game awareness. Although right-foot dominant, she shoots effectively with both feet, making her a dynamic presence across multiple areas of the game. Since November 2024, she has recorded 72 goals in her goal diary while also achieving numerous clean sweeps as a goalkeeper.

Vera currently plays for Pittsburgh Independence Football Club (PIFC), where she continues to develop as both a goalkeeper and striker under the guidance of Coaches David Flavius and Thomas Louisy. She also competes with the Murrysville Area Soccer Association (MASA) travel team, coached by Adam McCullough and William Geiselhart. Her soccer journey began at MASA as a recreational player before progressing into travel soccer and more advanced levels of competition.

To further enhance her skills, Vera participates in futsal training through Ultimate Youth Futsal under Coach Ricardo Headley. The fast-paced indoor format has helped sharpen her footwork, agility, ball control, and decision-making under pressure.

Several coaches have played pivotal roles in her development. Coach Adam McCullough has been particularly influential in shaping her goalkeeping abilities and helping her grow into a confident and technically sound player. At the club level, Coaches David Flavius and Thomas Louisy have provided valuable guidance that has strengthened her tactical understanding, consistency, and overall confidence.

Coach David Flavius brings extensive experience to his role, having represented Saint Lucia internationally before becoming a respected coach in the Pittsburgh soccer community. His contributions to the game were recognized with induction into the Riverhounds SC Hall of Fame in 2019. Coach Thomas Louisy also brings a strong playing background, having competed with the Saint Lucia U17 National Team and participated in high-level Caribbean competitions.

Beyond her own achievements, Vera is committed to giving back to the sport. She volunteers as a youth soccer coach, helping younger players learn fundamentals and build confidence through positive mentorship.

Her latest opportunity comes through Coach George Ba, a former professional player and respected youth mentor who leads Ba Soccer Academy. Known for emphasizing player development and a professional mindset, Coach Ba identified Vera as a player ready for greater challenges on the international stage.

During the France program, Vera will participate in elite training sessions, tournament play, and international matches designed to test and develop young athletes in a highly competitive environment. For Vera, the experience represents a significant step forward in her soccer career and a chance to compete against top international talent.

As Team USA returns to Paris in June 2026, Vera Mirelle Sharan's selection highlights not only her remarkable growth as a player but also the dedication, work ethic, and support system that have helped her reach this exciting stage. At just 11 years old, and competing two years above her age group, she continues to demonstrate the potential, character, and determination of a rising athlete with a bright future ahead.
