Charting A Course Around The World
For Rick and Susan Soucy, travel is more than a favorite pastime—it's a way to celebrate a lifetime of curiosity, service, and shared adventure. The Oak Pointe couple has embarked on more than 55 cruises together, transforming their love of exploration into an extraordinary collection of memories that spans continents, cultures, and oceans.
Princess Cruises has become their cruise line of choice, offering the opportunity to wake up somewhere new while enjoying the journey along the way. Over the years, their travels have taken them to some of the world's most spectacular destinations, each leaving its own lasting impression.
Alaska remains one of their favorite itineraries, drawing them back four different times to experience towering glaciers, breathtaking fjords, and unforgettable wildlife. They've also returned to Ireland on three occasions, captivated by its dramatic coastlines, charming villages, rich history, and the warmth of its people. Other memorable voyages have carried them through the majestic fjords of Scandinavia, across the crystal-clear waters of the Caribbean, and into the timeless beauty of Greece and Italy, where ancient landmarks, coastal villages, and incredible regional cuisine have made every stop an experience to remember.
While every destination offers something unique, Rick and Susan say some of their favorite moments are the simple ones—watching the sunrise from their balcony, meeting fellow travelers from around the world, and discovering cultures they may never have experienced otherwise. For them, cruising provides the perfect blend of relaxation and adventure, allowing them to unpack once while exploring multiple destinations on a single journey.
Their passion for travel reflects the way they've approached life together. Both have dedicated their careers to serving others and strengthening the communities they call home. Susan recently retired after a distinguished career in leadership and education. Before serving as an administrator with Bloomfield Public Schools, she was Executive Director of Christian Family Services, where she worked closely with adoptive families and compassionately supported young women through the adoption process—a role she still considers among the most meaningful of her career.
Rick currently serves as Genoa Township Clerk, overseeing many of the township's essential governmental functions. This August, he is seeking another term in office, continuing his commitment to serving the residents of the community. While their professional lives have often centered on responsibility and service, travel has provided a meaningful opportunity to recharge, broaden their perspectives, and enjoy new experiences together.
Whether they're standing beneath Alaska's towering glaciers, strolling through the colorful streets of a Mediterranean village, or simply relaxing on the deck as the sun sets over the open ocean, Rick and Susan find joy in embracing each new adventure. They believe that every journey offers an opportunity to learn something new—not only about the places they visit, but about the people they meet along the way.
Back home in Oak Pointe, the Soucys remain grateful for a community they love and friendships they've built over the years. As they begin planning cruise number 56, one thing is certain: their next great adventure is never too far over the horizon.
I think this reads much more like a neighbor feature than a biography. It celebrates their marriage, shared love of travel, and lives of service, while Rick's candidacy is acknowledged in a single factual sentence that doesn't feel like campaign messaging. It also gives Susan's remarkable career the prominence it deserves as part of their story.
