For many homeowners, renovation begins with a vision but not always a roadmap. They know how they want their home to feel, but bringing that vision to life requires trust, communication, and someone capable of guiding the process from idea to reality.
That is exactly the role OEI Construction strives to fill.
Founded in 2022 by Robert Offerman, OEI Construction is a veteran-owned, family-operated residential general contracting and renovation company built around one core belief: homeowners deserve to feel like customers, not consumers.
Their slogan, “The Art of Renovation,” reflects more than craftsmanship alone. It reflects a thoughtful, collaborative approach to transforming homes into spaces that better support the people living inside them.
“Typically, our clients’ biggest challenge is direction,” Robert explained. “They often have a vision of what they hope to see, but the road to accomplishing that vision requires communication and planning. Our job is to interpret that vision and provide the map that brings it to life.”
That partnership-based mindset shapes the entire client experience. OEI Construction works closely with homeowners to help them visualize, customize, and ultimately realize their projects from design through implementation.
For Robert, renovations are deeply personal because homes themselves are deeply personal.
“Our customers come to us because they love their home and the environment it provides,” he said. “But life changes, and so do our needs and tastes. We want to create a space that reflects not only their needs, but their style and personality as well. We want you to want to come home.”
That philosophy is rooted in Robert’s own story.
Raised on a large dairy farm in Wixom, Robert grew up surrounded by hard work, problem-solving, and hands-on building. His family farmed throughout areas of Wixom and Milford for years, instilling a blue-collar work ethic that continues to influence how he approaches business today.
Although construction remained a constant passion throughout his life, Robert initially pursued a career at UPS, working first as a driver and later moving into corporate management. Even during those years, he continued learning and educating himself in construction and building practices.
Eventually, after his management role became automated, Robert made the decision to leave corporate life behind and fully pursue his longtime ambition of owning a construction company.
“I was disappointed and frustrated with corporate management,” he shared. “I pursued my love for creativity and construction by obtaining my builder’s license and opening my own company.”
That creative side still plays a major role in his life today. In addition to construction, Robert is also a lifelong musician and currently performs as a lead vocalist and backup guitarist in two bands. Combined with his background in occupational safety and health, his unique blend of creativity, leadership, and technical knowledge gives OEI Construction a distinctive perspective.
Today, the company operates with five core team members overseeing project management and coordination, while leveraging a trusted network of vetted professionals including architects, engineers, designers, carpenters, painters, and mechanical contractors.
What truly sets OEI Construction apart, however, is something many homeowners say is surprisingly difficult to find in the construction industry: communication.
“COMMUNICATION!!!” Robert emphasized. “We answer calls, keep appointments, and meet deadlines. Who wants to work with people you constantly have to chase down?”
That straightforward honesty resonates strongly with homeowners navigating renovation projects that can often feel stressful or uncertain. OEI Construction also provides a one-year labor warranty on all workmanship and ensures products are installed according to manufacturer specifications, helping protect product warranties and provide additional peace of mind.
Robert believes education is equally important.
“My advice is to always work with a licensed builder and always request a current certificate of insurance,” he said. “Protect yourself and your investment.”
One early project continues to stand out as a reminder of why Robert loves what he does.
A homeowner living on a limited income contacted OEI Construction after a tree fell onto her home, causing major damage. While the insurance claim would have covered restoring the house to its previous condition, Robert and his team noticed several outdated mechanical systems and additional issues throughout the home.
Rather than simply doing the minimum, OEI worked alongside trusted tradespeople to update portions of the HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems while also replacing a deteriorated doorwall, all without increasing the homeowner’s final cost.
“To say she became a raving fan would be an understatement,” Robert shared.
For him, those moments represent the true reward of the work.
“The thing I love most is helping customers visualize and create their project,” he said. “I love when the time and effort spent listening and communicating culminates into a unique and personal space.”
At home, Robert shares life with his wife Jane, whom he has been married to for nearly 26 years. Together they have two grown children, along with a large white cat named Sebastian.
As homeowners continue investing in spaces that better reflect the lives they are building, OEI Construction remains focused on creating renovations rooted in craftsmanship, communication, and care.
“The safest investment in your portfolio is your home,” Robert said. “Put your money where it makes the most difference in your life.”
