Life in West Texas is always an adventure, and every Lubbock homeowner knows that our weather takes a real toll on the roofs of our houses. Sun, wind, rain, and storms all add wear and tear—and roofing companies know it. While we have many wonderful local roofers, our city also attracts predatory fly-by-night operations that take advantage of unsuspected home and business owners with flashy deals that yield mediocre results. Clayton Swan was born and raised in West Texas. Having attended Texas Tech, he found his way into the world of roofing. Working within the industry he quickly noticed some of the issues found throughout the industry: “In some parts of the business, the focus of ‘people first’ left—whereas my strong suit is being in front of people, talking to people, and taking care of people. That’s what led me to start my own business. being in front of people and communicating with people. We’re here to do the right thing and get their homes back to their previous condition. The goal is always to serve West Texas families with integrity, accountability, and care.”  

Swan Family Roofing believes in long term relationships, not just completing projects. Nothing is outsourced; from the first phone call to the final walkthrough, you’re working directly with the team at Swan.  For Clayton, the goal is quality work and client relationships rather than raw business growth. And as a family man he has his eye on the future: “When I started this I thought ‘You know, if I do it my way I can keep it the way I want it,’ which means small, local,  relationship-based, West Texas-based and something that my kids can maybe grow into when they get older if they desire that. I’ve seen a lot of focus on companies trying to get too big and forgetting the value of West Texas relationships and people. I don’t want to get to that point.”

Keeping it local means working with local homeowners, who form the core of Swan Family Roofing’s client base. “The focus would be residential”, Clayton explained. “Obviously we are doing a little bit of commercial but the focus is 99% residential, taking care of homeowners and families, we’ll do exteriors on home, whatever the homeowner needs we can probably do it but I want to stay in my lane doing roofs, exteriors and gutters.”

Within that scope of services—roofs, exteriors, and gutters—lie a great many tasks, chores, and home upgrades that often benefit from an experienced professional touch. With the diversity of homes around the city, Lubbock requires varied approaches to home upgrades and repair. Clayton and his team are up to the challenge: “We’ll do any kind of fascia, we’ll do wood, custom-bent aluminum, siding installation and repair, windows, door and window wraps, stain for wooden exterior pieces. We paint as well if the client needs that.”

As always we asked what advice Swan Family Roofing has for local homeowners looking for a roofing company, and Clayton again emphasized the importance of hiring an experienced and accountable local business: “Make sure they’re local. There’s a ton of great local companies here. I’ve seen it in the past where these out-of-towners and fly-by-nighters come in and pull the wool over homeowners’ eyes and if something happens and there’s an issue they’re gone, they’re out of town. Anybody can go door knocking after a storm; don’t fall into the tricks that out-of-towners have. And don’t sign anything until you've vetted the company!”

Clayton and his wife Allison are both West Texas natives—they met while matriculating at Tech—and they plan to stay here for the rest of their lives. Swan Family Roofing is a generational project, both in the family nature of the business and their desire to build something enduring. For homeowners in our neighborhood this should be a comfort. We know that we’ll get great service from a local business and that they’ll be here to help for years to come. There are indeed many great local roofing companies, but Swan Family Roofing brings something special to the table each and every time.
