If you wake up one morning in the Old Village and find your yard covered in a flamboyant sea of pink flamingos, don’t panic, you’ve just been flocked for a fantastic cause.

The OV Flock is back, and this joyful, community-powered fundraiser is once again rallying neighbors, families, and friends to support Make-A-Wish South Carolina. After soaring success last year, raising nearly $38,000 and funding five incredible wishes, the flock is ready to take flight again. And yes, they’re hoping to soar even higher.

The concept is simple, playful, and undeniably fun. For a donation of $250 or more, residents can choose to have their own yard flocked, or surprise a friend, with dozens of cheerful pink flamingos. It’s a sight guaranteed to spark smiles, conversations, and maybe even a little friendly neighborhood rivalry.

The festivities kick off with an official OV Flock party at Ty’s Roadside on March 22 from 3 to 5pm, a perfect chance to celebrate with neighbors while supporting a powerful mission.

While the flamingos bring the fun, the mission behind them is deeply meaningful. Make-A-Wish South Carolina is an independent nonprofit granting life-changing wishes to critically ill children across the state. All funds raised stay local, benefiting children right here in our surrounding communities.

 

Many residents are surprised to learn that Make-A-Wish doesn’t serve only children with terminal diagnoses. Wishes are an essential part of a child’s healing journey. In fact, 90% of wish kids report feeling more joyful, confident, and hopeful for the future after their wish is granted, which serves as a powerful reminder that hope itself can be transformative. Right now, 54 children in the Lowcountry are waiting for their wish. That’s why every dollar matters.

The OV Flock was born from the simple idea that joy multiplies when shared. Inspired by Hart Peary, who launched a similar fundraiser on Daniel Island in honor of her son, Charlie, the Old Village embraced the concept wholeheartedly. Last year’s enthusiasm proved just how powerful a close-knit neighborhood can be when it rallies around a cause. The flock’s organizers describe it best: “It truly takes a village to make a big impact.” And the Old Village has the heart to make this more than a fundraiser—it’s becoming a tradition.
