Pet’s Name: My name is Juno, but I also come running to “Little Miss”, “Ma’am”, Juno Bug, “Little Bug”, and “Baby Juno”

What kind of breed? We don’t know what I’m mixed with! I was listed as a shepherd/husky mix, but my parents want to get a DNA test done to know what my makeup is. They think I’m a rat terrier/husky mix. I was adopted at the shelter, and they estimated my birthday to be December 11th. I am now a little over a year old!

Where/why did you get your pet? We adopted Juno from Wright-Way Rescue in Morton Grove in March 2025, which is the same location we adopted her older brother, Koa in 2020! Her older brother, Koa, has a lot of energy and we knew Juno would be the perfect match to his personality and demeanor. We had been looking at puppies for about a year, and my students helped me find Juno online. Once we met Juno at the shelter for a meet and greet, we knew she would fit right in!

Is there a story behind her name? We wanted another unique name for our second dog, and Juno seemed to match well with Koa. One of my students went to Normandy, France for a trip and brought me back sand from Juno Beach, which was a fun connection! We also joke about how much we love the movie Juno, too! There’s no immediate connection with her name, but we couldn’t imagine another name for our little Juno Bug!

Anything special or unusual about Juno? Being a little sister in the house, she mimics our older dog, Koa, all the time! She is obsessed with him and wants to do everything with him. She has learned how to be a sock thief, and most importantly, is learning how to perform squeakerectomies on her toys with squeakers! She is so happy to be part of the pack and wants to be included in everything we do. She dutifully guards me while I’m cooking dinner, she always helps with watering duty in our greenhouse, and loves to share an apple or strawberries with us. Juno is very smart and is excellent at solving dog puzzles, locating items she shouldn’t have, and sneaking up on her brother.

What do you like best about your pet? Juno is part of the pack and wants to be included in everything we do. We only had our other dog, Koa, for five years, and we didn’t know what to expect with adding Juno to our family. Now that she’s with us, we couldn’t imagine not having her. She is the sweetest puppy and loves to be present with us. She has added such joy to our family!

Any funny stories? Juno was only 15 pounds when we adopted her, and our older dog, Koa, is 86 pounds. She terrified him the first week, and she would be a little jumping bean to run over to him, and he would jump on the couch to hide! Juno has no fear and initiates play fighting, chasing, etc. She is the fastest puppy we know and outruns Koa constantly! But, just like any second child, she immediately hides by us when she knows she takes it too far with Koa.

How spoiled is your pet? Just like with Koa, Juno is so spoiled! They come from a millennial household...need I say more? They have their beloved walker, Nanette, while we’re away at work, they have a loyal groomer, Trish, to take care of all of their pampering needs, and they have Aunt Susie and Gram (Grandma) wrapped around their paws. Koa and Juno go everywhere we go, and we plan our schedules around their needs. Spoiled is an understatement.

What else should we know about your pet and/or how your pet has enriched your home/family? Juno has completed our family, and we didn’t know what we were missing until we adopted her. She came into our lives during a time we needed her most, and she immediately imprinted on our pack and us. If you’re on the fence about adopting another, or adopting a dog at all, let Juno be your motivation! Owning a dog brings out your best qualities, and you really learn how to navigate this world by how much you love your pup. They are with us for a fraction of our lives, and in this sweet world, there are few greater gifts than the love and companionship your dog(s) bring to you.
