Kelsey McIntyre of Sandia Mountain Solar
Harnessing Sunshine and Strength
For Kelsey McIntyre, solar energy isn’t just a profession, it’s a purpose built from family, perseverance, and a deep commitment to community. As co-owner of Sandia Mountain Solar, a division of Morgan’s Constructive Solutions, Kelsey has combined more than a decade of solar industry experience with her family’s roots in construction to create something extraordinary: a solar company that treats every project as a partnership built on trust, craftsmanship, and long-term value.
“I’ve always believed in helping people make informed, empowered choices,” Kelsey says. “For homeowners, solar is more than panels and wiring, it’s independence.”
Born and raised in Tijeras, Kelsey has deep New Mexico roots and proudly serves communities across the region, including Placitas, where she’s built lasting connections with residents who value sustainability and local expertise. A full-time single mother of three, Kelsey’s home life is as lively as her business, shared with 30 chickens, 12 baby chicks, and 4 goats: Popcorn and her two kids, along with Brookie, an orphan goat who acts more like a dog than livestock. When she’s not managing solar projects, she enjoys hiking mountain trails, gardening, fishing (“though not much catching,” she laughs), attending local festivals, and exploring national parks with her children.
From Door-Knocker to Business Owner
Kelsey’s path to success didn’t begin in a boardroom, it started at the doorstep. At 19, she was searching for direction and working in door-to-door sales when her father, an experienced construction professional, suggested she apply at a local solar company. She reluctantly took the interview and was hired as a door knocker. That decision changed the course of her life.
Over the following years, Kelsey climbed the ranks, moving from receptionist to sales administrator, then into operations as a project manager. She learned every stage of the solar process, sales, permitting, design, and installation. That hands-on knowledge eventually led her to a realization: solar could be done differently.
With her father’s support, she helped form Sandia Mountain Solar, a solar division of their family construction business. Their vision was clear—to create a company that merged technical expertise with the integrity and precision of a construction firm. Today, the business specializes in grid-tied, off-grid, and hybrid photovoltaic systems, offering custom installations on roofs, carports, and ground mounts, all designed and built in-house.
A Company Built on Integrity
Sandia Mountain Solar distinguishes itself with a transparent, customer-first approach. “The industry sometimes gets a bad reputation for pushy sales tactics,” Kelsey says. “That’s why my goal is to educate people and help them weigh their options. I want every customer to feel confident in their decision.”
Her advice to homeowners is simple: choose local, licensed, and insured providers who understand New Mexico’s unique requirements and utility regulations. She also encourages homeowners to review product warranties and think about long-term value. “If you’re paying more than $100 a month for electricity and have solid sunlight exposure,” she notes, “solar could benefit you.”
Because Sandia Mountain Solar grew out of a construction company, the team brings structural knowledge and attention to detail that other providers often lack. They also self-perform all their work, no outsourcing, no shortcuts. The result is high-quality installations that meet both aesthetic and performance goals.
The company gives back to the broader construction and solar community through training and education. Sandia Mountain Solar is an active member of Associated Builders and Contractors, with three employees currently enrolled in electrical apprenticeship programs. That investment in training not only strengthens their team but also supports the next generation of tradespeople in New Mexico.
Powering Placitas and Beyond
For Kelsey, solar energy is more than a business, it’s a way of making life better for families, communities, and the planet. Each project she takes on is guided by the same philosophy that shapes her personal life: honesty, care, and a commitment to quality work done the right way.
Her customers appreciate that personal touch. Whether she’s overseeing an off-grid build or helping a Placitas homeowner reduce their electricity bills, Kelsey approaches every system with the same goal, to deliver clean energy while building lasting trust.
Between raising her children, caring for her small farm, and leading a growing company, Kelsey brings a spirit of resilience and authenticity to everything she does. Her story, and her work through Sandia Mountain Solar, embody the best of New Mexico’s independent spirit: hardworking, grounded, and always looking toward a brighter future.
