Chad and Amber both grew up in Northern Colorado and have a deep appreciation for the place they call home – the place they're now raising babies and a business. Chad started working at the shop when he was just 18, finding a craft that combined his love of problem-solving with the satisfaction of working with his hands. It was a natural fit for his curiosity, attention to detail, and desire to create something tangible.

 

“When I was growing up, I thought I wanted to be an engineer. Then I met engineers,” Chad said with a warm laugh. “I was part of a robotics team, and I figured out I liked working with my hands and was good at it. I wanted something more hands-on, and when I learned that watchmaking was still a viable career, I walked into the shop and asked if I could apprentice.”

 

Over the next three years, Chad learned the skills of the trade, gaining not only technical expertise but also a deep appreciation for the trust customers place in someone caring for the pieces that matter most to them.

 

Chad and Amber met in 2021 at a mutual friend’s birthday party. They immediately knew they had found something special in one another and began building a life together. The pair were married, and not long after, they had the opportunity to become the owners of the shop in 2022.

Each project presents its own challenges, but what continues to motivate him is the opportunity to help preserve the stories and memories attached to the pieces entrusted to his care.

 

Together, Chad and Amber steward different aspects of Mountain Standard Company, each bringing strengths that complement the other. Chad leads the repair, restoration, and craftsmanship side of the business, while Amber focuses on operations and the relationships that help the business thrive. Together, they've built a company centered on trust, care, and serving people well.

 

When they're not at the shop, Chad and Amber's lives revolve around family, faith, and their community. Parents to two young children – two-year-old Tara and newborn Jensen – they seek out intentional ways to carve out quality time together. They are involved at Mill City Church, where Chad serves in an audio engineering capacity. As an added bonus, when you visit Mountain Standard Company, you'll likely be greeted by their shop dog, Clark.

 

These days, it's increasingly rare to walk into a shop and speak directly with the person who will be working on your watch or jewelry. For Chad and Amber, that personal connection is one of the things they value most about being a local, family-owned business. Living, working, and raising their family in Northern Colorado gives them the opportunity to build lasting relationships with the people they serve.
