Jaxton McGurren’s Creating a World Where Every Kid Can Become a Legend
While most 10-year-olds are content playing trading card games, Riverlights resident Jaxton McGurren decided to create one.
At just 9 years old, Jaxton took his passion for drawing monsters, dreaming up characters, and collecting trading cards and turned it into something bigger: Legend Bound, a game built on a simple belief that every child deserves the chance to see their imagination come to life. "What if kids everywhere could create trading cards together?" Jaxton remembers wondering. That single question has since grown into something far beyond a sketchbook.
What sets Legend Bound apart is its heart. Rather than simply collecting characters dreamed up by someone else, kids become Character Creators themselves. Young artists submit their own original drawings, which are then turned into real, collectible cards, ready to be traded and battled with. Each card proudly bears its creator's name beneath the words "Forged by," giving young imaginations the recognition they deserve.
For Jaxton, though, the magic isn't only in the cards. It's in the community they're building.
"I get excited when other kids get involved and want to draw and create characters for Legend Bound," he shared. In just one year, that community has grown quickly. Legend Bound now boasts 75 unique cards and characters, a website of its own, and even branded merchandise, which Jaxton loves handing out to fellow kids.
Like many young entrepreneurs, Jaxton has hit a few bumps along the way. When classmates started copying his idea, it stung at first. But his perspective shifted over time. "I came to realize that it was actually a compliment to my business," he said.
Outside of building his trading card empire, Jaxton is settling into life in his new Riverlights neighborhood, where he's looking forward to catching waves and making new friends. And his ambitions are every bit as big as the creatures he draws. Someday, he hopes to pitch Legend Bound on Shark Tank, and with a laugh, he adds that his real goal is to "shut Pokémon down."
But beneath the big dreams is a simple hope: that Legend Bound becomes a place where kids feel included, form friendships, and feel free to express their creativity. Jaxton's advice for other young dreamers is straightforward: "Be yourself, and don't let anyone stand in the way of your goals. Never look back, keep pushing forward and following your dreams."
So if you're a young artist with a notebook full of characters just waiting to be discovered, Jaxton has an invitation for you. Join him outside the Riverlights lake house on August 30th from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM to submit your character drawings in person and be given your first Legend card! Your next drawing might just become the newest Legend.
