The Hoffman Family
Between demanding careers in medicine and life with four young children, Erik and Jessica Hoffman have found their rhythm in Sedgefield—a community that has grown alongside their family over the past decade.
For Erik and Jessica Hoffman, life moves at a full pace.
As physicians, their days revolve around caring for others. At home, they are raising four children—Harrison, 9, Christian, 6, Charlotte, 5, and Sophia, 1—while keeping up with school schedules, sports practices, dance classes, and the everyday moments that make a house feel like home.
It is busy by any measure. But for the Hoffmans, that season of busyness is also one they deeply value.
The couple's story began at Emory University, where they met as freshmen. Medicine would eventually shape both of their careers, though their paths into the profession unfolded differently.
Erik, who grew up in Siler City and attended high school in Durham, went on to medical school in Florida before returning to North Carolina to complete his residency at Moses Cone Hospital. Today, he serves as Program Director for the Internal Medicine Residency Program while also supervising physicians in training and maintaining a small panel of patients as a primary care physician.
Jessica, who grew up in Atlanta, attended Campbell University School of Osteopathic Medicine as part of its inaugural class. During her residency at Cone Health, she discovered a passion for wound care. She now practices at Cone Health's Wound and Hyperbaric Center at Wesley Long, treating patients with chronic wounds.
Together, they understand the privilege and responsibility that come with caring for others.
Finding Their Place
The Hoffmans moved to Sedgefield in 2015 during a transitional season. Erik was completing residency, and Jessica was finishing medical school rotations in Salisbury.
What began as a geographic search quickly became something more.
"We fell in love with this neighborhood due to its unique custom homes and golf club," the family shares.
Just as memorable was the welcome they received.
"Our neighborhood instantly welcomed us to our cul-de-sac neighborhood on Tanbark Court."
More than a decade later, those early impressions still shape how they describe life in Sedgefield. The family enjoys the activities offered through Sedgefield Country Club and appreciates the relationships built through years of shared experiences with neighbors.
The sense of community is important, but understated—less about organized involvement and more about knowing the people around you and feeling rooted where you live.
The Busy Years
At home, each child brings a different energy to family life.
Harrison enjoys soccer and tennis. Christian has recently discovered an interest in rock climbing and also plays tennis. Charlotte loves dance, while little Sophia is still revealing her personality.
"We are still learning Sophia's personality," they say.
Family life also includes Bella and Leo, the family's two Golden Retrievers, who help ensure there is never a shortage of activity in the Hoffman household.
Even with packed schedules, Erik and Jessica make time for their own interests. Golf remains something they enjoy together whenever they can make time.
Together, the family looks forward to annual trips to Emerald Isle. Closer to home, favorite meals often mean visits to Southern Roots, Sushi Republic, or Hops Burger Bar.
Sports loyalties run deep as well. Depending on the season, you'll find the Hoffmans cheering for Duke, the Panthers or Falcons, the Hurricanes, and the Braves.
These days, life is full in every sense of the word. After more than a decade in Sedgefield, the reasons the Hoffmans chose the neighborhood still hold true.
They found a welcoming community, a place where their children could grow up, and a home that has evolved alongside their family.
