Life According to Hootie
Hootie, the Cimino family’s goldendoodle, shares her take on trails, tennis balls, and keeping a watchful eye on the Singletree neighborhood.
Hi, my name is Hootie. I’m a Colorado native. Although I was born in Granby, Colorado, I’ve lived in the Vail Valley since I was just one (about 8 weeks in human years), so I like to think I’ve mastered the Vail lifestyle.
My favorite season is autumn. I love hiking, leaf-peeping, chasing the scent of anything I can find on the local trails, and, of course, watching (and occasionally chasing) deer. We have so many deer in Singletree, I’ve lost count.
Winter is a close second. I LOVE bounding through snowfields, chasing my family on skis, and curling up by the fireplace afterward. The only downside is what the snow does to my fur: it tends to ball up, and eventually my humans make me take a warm bath to melt off the icy shell I’ve collected.
Colorado is an amazing place to live, but if I’m being honest, my true passion is tennis balls. I would do absolutely anything for one. In fact, my parents have to hide them when they leave the house, or I’ll happily play fetch with myself indoors.
I used to be a perfect only child until my parents brought home some little humans. I was skeptical at first, but those three little rugrats have completely stolen my heart. We play together, sleep together, and even eat together. I didn’t care much for human food until they introduced me to steak, so really, can you blame me?
While I love being a big sister, I’ve recently taken on a new role: neighborhood guard dog. My house has big windows overlooking the street, and I take my patrol duties very seriously. My dad works hard to keep the grass green, and I make sure no other dogs get any ideas about it. I’m a lover at heart, but age has made me a bit of a grump: so if I bark at you, it’s just my way of saying hello.
Well, that’s my life. I look forward to meeting you out on the streets!
