A Scalp Retreat Worth Repeating

Stonebridge resident Christina Olsen discovers unexpected luxury, deep relaxation, and science-backed care at Lulu Head Spa in a truly transformative experience.

I booked a 30-minute head and neck relaxation service at Lulu Head Spa thinking, "This will be nice."  I did not expect to walk out feeling like I had left my body somewhere in a rainforest and returned as a calmer version of myself.

Lulu Head Spa opened in 2024 and is already turning heads (yes, pun absolutely intended). The moment I stepped inside, I paused. The decor, the music, the atmosphere… everything felt intentional. Soft greenery, earthy tones, calming sounds. It felt less like entering a salon and more like stepping into a retreat.

Owner Valerie Sanchez greeted me at the door with a warm neck wrap, which was my first clue this experience would be different. We moved into the waiting area, which was beautifully designed and unlike the traditional salon environment. I immediately felt less like a customer and more like a welcomed guest.

Then came the surprise: education.

My service was performed by Danielle, and before anything began, she used a specialized scalp analysis machine to closely examine my scalp health.  And when I say close… I mean close.

We looked at buildup, follicle condition, oil balance, and overall scalp health. I even discovered a few gray hairs at a level of magnification I was emotionally unprepared for. I decided I am calling them distinguished highlights. The scalp analysis alone was worth the appointment.

I spend time caring for my skin and hair, but until now I completely overlooked the skin sitting directly underneath all that hair. Based on what she found, Danielle selected products tailored specifically to my scalp’s needs, including formulas Valerie creates in-house. Thoughtfully crafted, handmade products designed to support my scalp and natural oils rather than strip them away.  And yes… you can take them home.

From there, we moved into a private treatment room. I changed, settled in, and Danielle explained every step before asking if I wanted an eye mask. The answer was immediately yes. Then those 30 minutes vanished. Head massage. Neck work. Cleansing. Rinsing. Conditioning. More conditioning. Pure relaxation.

I’ve had a lot of massages over the years.  I would trade many of them for this experience.

When we finished, Danielle brought me back to the scalp camera so we could compare before and after images. The difference was visible.  Cleaner follicles. Healthier scalp. Everything looked refreshed, balanced, and honestly… happy. I know that sounds ridiculous, but if scalps could smile, mine was doing it.

Afterward, I moved to the blow-dry station. You have options here too: leave with wet hair if you’re short on time or book with their cosmetologist for a full blowout experience. I stayed.  Mostly because I was enjoying myself and partly because I wanted to play with the products and tools. Their selection is impressive, and the brushes alone deserve their own conversation.

One thing Danille said really impacted me. "Our scalp ages faster than almost any other area of the body." hmmmm.... We invest in skincare. We invest in hair care. Yet we often ignore the foundation supporting both. That is what Lulu Head Spa is changing.

This isn’t simply a luxury treatment. It feels more like maintenance your head needs to just feel better. If your scalp could schedule its own self-care appointment, I’m fairly certain this would be it.  Explore their services at luluheadspa.com and give your scalp the day off it has earned.

And if you go…Tell them Christina sent you.
