A Sullivan's Island Tradition

Step inside some of Sullivan's Island's most beautiful homes while celebrating local art, exceptional food, and a tradition that gives back to the Lowcountry.

There are few events that showcase what makes the Lowcountry special quite like Art on the Beach.
For one Sunday each November, beautiful private homes become galleries, local artists fill them with incredible work, chefs serve tasting bites, and neighbors welcome visitors from across the Lowcountry for an afternoon that feels uniquely Sullivan's Island. Community-driven from the very beginning, it has become one of the island's favorite traditions over the past 27 years.
Art on the Beach, presented by Daniel Ravenel Sotheby's International Realty, was founded in 1999 by Sullivan's Island resident Carol Antman as a way to celebrate local art while raising money for a good cause. Since 2015, this home, art, and food tour has benefited Charleston Pro Bono Legal Services, helping provide free civil legal services to local families who otherwise couldn't afford an attorney. As the event has grown, so has its impact, making it Charleston Pro Bono's largest annual fundraiser.
The homes have always been one of the tour's biggest draws. Each year, homeowners generously open their doors to give guests a rare chance to step inside some of Sullivan's Island's most beautiful and distinctive residences. Each home becomes part of the experience, serving as the perfect backdrop for artwork that ranges from paintings and photography to ceramics, jewelry, sculpture, and textiles.
Many of our participating artists have deep ties to Sullivan's Island and the surrounding Lowcountry. Their work reflects the landscape, wildlife, and coast that inspire so much of the creativity found here.
This year's featured artist is Lisa Anne Tindal, whose figurative collage piece Love Remains will be displayed and available for purchase on the tour.
Art on the Beach has always been about more than the art alone. Local chefs donate their time and talents to create a memorable culinary experience throughout the tour, while sponsors, volunteers, businesses, and homeowners come together each year to make it all possible. It takes a community to pull off an event like this, and that's part of what we think makes it so special.
In recent years, Art on the Beach has expanded with the addition of the Art on the Beach Community Market, a free outdoor market in the heart of Sullivan's Island featuring local artists, makers, and small businesses, presented by St. Pierre Construction. Best of all, the market is free and open to everyone, making Art on the Beach accessible even for those who aren't attending the home tour.
For many people, Art on the Beach has become part of the rhythm of the holiday season. It's a chance to slow down, spend time on the island, discover new artists, and find meaningful gifts while supporting a great cause. Every ticket purchased and every piece of artwork sold helps Charleston Pro Bono Legal Services continue providing free legal services to neighbors facing issues like eviction, domestic violence, and estate planning.
We hope you'll join us this November and experience for yourself why Art on the Beach has become one of Charleston's most beloved traditions.
