From July 28–31, The Cascades will once again welcome the 56th M&P Group Texas State Open, bringing together many of the state's top professional and amateur golfers for four days of championship competition. Hosted by the Northern Texas PGA, the tournament has become a summer tradition in Tyler and a point of pride for the Cascades community.

The Texas State Open has a rich history dating back to 1960, with past champions including golf legends such as Lee Trevino, Ben Crenshaw, and Jeff Maggert. Over the decades, the championship has grown into one of Texas' premier state golf events, providing a proving ground for rising stars while showcasing some of the region's most accomplished professionals.

No course has become more closely associated with the tournament than The Cascades Country Club. Since first hosting the championship in 2006, the course has welcomed the event numerous times and now holds the distinction of hosting it more than any other venue in tournament history. Its championship-caliber layout, pristine conditions, and warm East Texas hospitality have made it a favorite among players and spectators alike.

That reputation is no accident. Designed to challenge every aspect of a golfer's game, the course demands precision from the opening tee shot through the final putt. The event has taken on even greater significance since M&P Group became the tournament's title sponsor in 2023. As owners of The Cascades Country Club, M&P Group strengthened its commitment to both the championship and the local community by partnering with the Northern Texas PGA to continue elevating the event. The partnership also established the M&P Group Texas State Open Scholarship, benefiting junior golfers from the Tyler area as they pursue higher education.

Last year's championship demonstrated just how competitive the event has become. Matthew Watkins captured the 55th M&P Group Texas State Open after firing an impressive 22-under-par over four rounds, earning the championship trophy and a $40,000 winner's prize from a purse exceeding $200,000. The tournament also recognized the Low Amateur and top PGA Professional while awarding a college scholarship to a Tyler-area junior golfer.
