A Mother’s Vision for Lifelong Wellness

For Dr. Savitha Susarla, medicine has always been personal.

Raised in Elgin, she built her life—and her purpose—right here in the community she still serves today. In 2005, she returned home to Elgin to join her father’s medical practice, carrying forward a legacy rooted in care, trust, and commitment. That same year, she opened her own medical spa and wellness center, guided by a belief that patients deserve more than quick answers—they deserve to be truly seen, heard, and supported.

Today, as a wife to her husband, Kalyan Poruri, a radiologist at Delnor Hospital, and a mother to Sangeeta (19) and Krishna (15), Dr. Susarla understands firsthand the balance women carry. It’s this perspective that shapes her approach to care—one that honors the connection between mind, body, and spirit.

As a board-certified family practice physician, Dr. Susarla brings an exceptional level of training and experience to her work. She graduated with academic distinction from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign with dual degrees in psychology and biology, earned her medical degree from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences, and completed her residency through the Cook County/Loyola family medicine program. She now serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor at the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine, helping train the next generation of physicians.

But what truly sets her apart is how she chooses to practice.

Through OM Medispa, Dr. Susarla has created a space where preventative medicine and modern aesthetic care come together. From medical spa services and weight loss programs to expanding anti-aging treatments, every offering is designed with intention—to help patients feel their best while building sustainable, healthy habits for life.

Her passion extends beyond the office. A dedicated yogi of over 20 years, a triathlete, a musician, and an advocate for wellness, she lives the lifestyle she encourages. She also gives back through local charitable work, reinforcing her deep connection to the community she calls home—including many families right here in Thornwood.

This Mother’s Day, we recognize Dr. Savitha Susarla not only for her professional excellence, but for the way she leads—with care, discipline, and a genuine desire to help others live well. It’s a reflection of what motherhood often looks like at its best: thoughtful, steady, and rooted in love.
