Heart Heroes
“Heart Heroes is more than just a cape—it’s a community,” says Morgan, Executive Director of Heart Heroes. This Omaha-based organization has been supporting children and families affected by congenital heart disease (CHD) for 16 years, providing comfort, connection, and courage to thousands each year.
The idea started simply: a few parents wanted to remind their children how brave they were during hospital stays. “With all the pokes, prods, and surgeries, the capes help kids remember they can handle anything,” Morgan explains. Today, Heart Heroes’ Superhero Cape program has distributed over 16,000 capes nationwide, including more than 300 last year alone, reaching families in 43 states.
But Heart Heroes doesn’t stop there. They offer Surgery Care Kits filled with blankets, games, and heart-themed bears, Summer Camps with 24/7 nursing care, and Remembrance programs for families who have experienced loss. A new program launching in 2026 will support expecting parents navigating a CHD diagnosis before birth.
“Families connect, share experiences, and support each other,” Morgan adds. “That sense of community is just as powerful as any program we offer.”
Heart Heroes relies on volunteers, donations, and awareness to keep their mission alive. Anyone can help by spreading the word about CHD, donating online, contributing to their Amazon wishlist, or volunteering at events.

“I became involved with Heart Heroes when our son Taye was born with congenital heart disease (CHD) 12 years ago and currently serve on the board. Heart Heroes provided support, care packages and community as our son fought for his life before, during and after his open heart surgery.”
