A Return To Home
Rachael and Andrew Sawyer have returned to Carmel after years in major cities, building a vibrant family life centered on community, tradition, and raising their three young sons.
Rachael (Moyer) Sawyer and her husband Andrew have built a life that blends deep Indiana roots with experiences gathered across the country. Now settled back in Carmel with their three young sons, Oliver, Hugh, and Archer, the Sawyers bring a vibrant mix of energy, curiosity, and connection to their neighborhood.
Rachael, a Carmel native, has a true full-circle story. She grew up just across the street from where the family now lives. Andrew is originally from Winona Lake, Indiana, where much of his family still resides. Together, they have created a home that reflects both their shared history and their wide-ranging life experiences.
A Journey That Led Home
The Sawyers returned to Carmel in the summer of 2024 after several years spent living in major cities across the country. Their journey included time in Chicago, Boston, and six years in San Francisco. Ultimately, the pull of family, familiarity, and a strong sense of community brought them back to Carmel.
Education and Early Paths
Both Rachael and Andrew bring strong academic backgrounds that have helped shape their careers.
Rachael attended Indiana University, where she studied Communication Sciences and Psychology, and later earned her Master’s degree in Speech Pathology from Saint Xavier University in Chicago. Andrew graduated from DePauw University with degrees in Economics and Spanish before earning his Master’s in Public Health from Harvard University.
A Chance Reunion
Their story began with an introduction arranged by mutual friends in Chicago. While their first meeting did not immediately lead to a relationship, their paths crossed again two years later when Andrew joined friends for a Super Bowl weekend in Indianapolis hosted by Rachael. That reunion sparked something meaningful, and the two began dating the very next week.
Professional Pursuits
Andrew is an entrepreneur and business leader who previously founded and sold a successful health tech company, Cured, which has offices in Indianapolis, Chicago, and Boulder. Today, he leads Gravity, an AI-focused company specializing in go-to-market strategy, while also owning RIP Cold Brew, a canned coffee brand that has become a favorite within their circle.
Rachael began her career as a medical speech pathologist, working at Community North as well
as at leading institutions, including UCSF and Boston Medical Center. After several years in healthcare, she transitioned into tech sales before choosing to stay home with their children, focusing on raising their family during this season of life.
Life with Three Boys
Life in the Sawyer household is lively, creative, and full of personality. Oliver, 6, attends Park Tudor and has developed an impressive talent for building, often completing complex Lego creations with thousands of pieces on his own. Hugh, 3.5, attends Sycamore School and brings imagination to everything he does, from dress up and pretend play to painting and hands-on creative projects.
Archer, 1.5, stays home with Rachael and is most often seen happily along for the ride, content in
her arms and always smiling. As a family, the boys enjoy puzzles, swimming, tennis, riding bikes, playing soccer, and exploring the many parks around town.
Rounding out the family is Milo, their nine-year-old brindle boxer, who is affectionately considered one of the children. Loyal and full of personality, Milo keeps a close watch over the household. He is more than happy to clean up table scraps, especially those dropped by his youngest companion.
Traditions and Favorite Places
The Sawyers cherish time spent together and have created meaningful traditions along the way.
Each Fourth of July is spent at their lake house in Leland, Michigan, a highlight of their year.
Other holidays are shared with extended family in Carmel, Winona Lake, and Naples, Florida.
Closer to home, they enjoy many of the community’s favorite spots. Rachael is actively involved with the Children’s Museum Guild, and the family frequently visits the Children’s Museum and Pickle on Penn.
They also love exploring Carmel’s parks, with Deerstyne Park standing out as a favorite.
Summers are often spent at Meridian Hills Country Club, while year-round routines include visits to local restaurants, coffee shops, and fitness studios.
Finding Joy Close to Home
What the Sawyers appreciate most about the Village of WestClay is the ease of everyday life. With parks, trails, and favorite local spots just minutes away, their family can stay active and connected without going far.
Their favorite memories so far are often the simplest. Family bike rides, walks to nearby spots, and neighborhood events like holiday celebrations and festivals have quickly become meaningful traditions.
For the Sawyer family, life here offers exactly what they were looking for: a strong sense of community and a place where their children can grow, explore, and truly feel at home.
