Rooted in Home and Heart: The Fruth Family’s Life in Scott Depot

Michael and Alexa Fruth are building a life rooted in family, purpose, and community at their home on Tyler Way in Scott Depot, where they live with their two young children, Jack, age two, and Josie, age one, along with their beloved dogs, Stella, a border collie mix, and Dudley, a Rottweiler, lab mix. Nearly two years into life in their neighborhood, the Fruths have found exactly what they hoped for, a close-knit place to raise their children, surrounded by friendly neighbors and the familiar comforts of home.

Both Michael and Alexa grew up in Hurricane, and their story together began years ago in an unlikely place, a math classroom. Alexa, who excelled academically, was taking classes alongside Michael, who was a grade ahead of her. A year later, they began dating, navigating the ups and downs of young adulthood before eventually finding their way back to one another. “We dated on and off after college, but everything came full circle while I was in PA school and Michael moved back to work for his family business,” Alexa shared. The couple married in October 2021 in Fayetteville and recently celebrated four years of marriage.

Life today is filled with the joyful energy of raising two young children. Jack attends Stepping Stones Academy, while Josie keeps everyone busy at home. “Spaghetti night is always a hit,” Alexa laughed. “Jack and Josie both eat what feels like adult-sized portions.” Family dinners are simple but meaningful moments that help the Fruths stay connected amid full schedules.

Professionally, both Michael and Alexa are passionate about serving others. Michael works as a Financial Advisor with Edward Jones, with an office located in St. Albans. His work focuses on comprehensive financial planning, estate planning, and investment management. “Michael truly enjoys helping families accomplish their financial goals,” Alexa explained. “He finds it incredibly fulfilling to guide people through important life decisions and help them feel confident about their future.
Alexa is a Dermatology Physician Assistant, dedicated to providing high-quality care to her patients. She recently transitioned to part-time work to spend more time with Jack and Josie. “Going part-time has been such a gift,” Alexa shared with Stroll Winfield. “Being able to spend more time with Jack and Josie during these early years is something I will always be grateful for.”

As a family, the Fruths love spending time outdoors. Walks through their neighborhood are a favorite way to relax, along with hikes at the Meeks Mountain Trails and afternoons spent swimming at the grandparents’ pools, something they feel especially fortunate to enjoy on both sides of the family. Michael also enjoys running and recently completed the Marshall Half Marathon. At home, he maintains a large saltwater fish tank, a hobby that has become a successful and rewarding passion.

Travel has also played an important role in their story together. Their honeymoon took them on an African safari in Kenya at the Maasai Mara National Reserve. “It was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience,” Alexa said. “Seeing elephants, giraffes, zebras, and even lions and cheetahs in their natural habitat was unforgettable.” While they treasure big adventures, the Fruths also place great value on family vacations. This year includes a camping trip to Watoga State Park with the Engel family and a Bahamas getaway with the Fruth side. Looking ahead, Michael hopes to begin annual ski trips once the kids are old enough.

Giving back is an important part of family life for Michael and Alexa. Each year, they adopt children from their county for Christmas, a tradition that has become one of their most meaningful. “It is something we truly look forward to every holiday season,” Alexa shared. Michael has also remained active through participation in Quantum’s Men’s Soccer League, and the family enjoys cheering on nieces and nephews at their sporting events.

Jack is already getting a taste of activities through Quantum’s tots soccer program and Friday Tot Zone. The Fruths plan for him to play Great Teays Soccer this year and begin swimming lessons at Sleepy Hollow. Watching their children grow, explore new interests, and build confidence has become one of the greatest joys of their lives.

What the Fruths value most about their neighborhood is the genuine sense of community. “Everyone is so welcoming, friendly, and always ready to say hello,” Alexa said. “We truly love calling this area home.” Having both grown up nearby, Michael and Alexa always dreamed of raising their children in the same kind of supportive environment that shaped them. Being close to family and lifelong friends only adds to the sense of belonging they feel every day.

For the Fruth family, life in Scott Depot is not just about where they live, it is about the people, the connections, and the memories they are building together.
